Background:
Lynda.com is a growing on-line learning company that offers thousands of video courses to help viewers learn software, technology, creative and business skills. They signed on to become a Partner in the Department of Energy’s Workplace Charging Challenge, where the goal is to increase the number of American employers offering workplace charging for plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) by tenfold in the next five years. As a company that produces training videos they felt that impacting the daily activities of their employees was the best way to reduce their impact on the environment.
Goal:
Committed to sustainability, Lynda.com wished to install an Electric Vehicle charging station for the use of their employees and to charge their company fleet of electric vehicles. There was a need to have a passcode for employees to access the free charging. The installation of the EV charging station would provide an incentive for employees to drive electric vehicles.
Solution:
We recommended they install one of our Juice Bar Quad charging stations with a point of sale system. The Juice Bar Quad provides two Level 2 charging ports & two Level 1 charging ports. This met their need to charge both employee vehicles with the Level 2 charge ports while utilizing the Level 1 chargers for their company fleet of EV’s. The POS system allowed them to offer free charging with a pass code.
Result:
As a way to support sustainability the company through the installation of the Juice Bar electric charging station was able to support it’s employees choices for greener transportation with the hope of encouraging other employees to start driving electric vehicles. Since opening the charging station, three employees have purchased electric vehicles. Lynda.com is able to use the 110-volt level one charging points for their company fleet of electric vehicles. Their Juice Bar is customized with the Lynda.com logo, and a security system so that their employees can use a pass code for free charging.
Chevy Chase Pavilion installed JuiceBar EV Charging Stations in 2013 in order to support the early adoption of electric vehicles in the Washington, DC metro area.
